Read Salo or Thr 120 Days of Sodom French
All joking aside is Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom actually proficient?
We've all seen the memes and I know the reputation it holds only is it a expert watch? I am a big horror fan, then I'm definitely not one to shy away from graphic violence or terror, then long as information technology'south not completely pointless. Would this be worth a selection up come the next B&North sale? Also is there annihilation I should do to prepare myself, like read an essay or have on the flick earlier watching? Or relieve all of that for postal service viewing.

It's an incredible movie, a perfect portrait of the anarchy of power. I don't really know any essays about it that aren't in Italian, I'll try to await for some.
To prepare for watching information technology, you should probably starting time watch other Pasolini'southward movies and maybe read some of his essays (and some essays nigh him), to better understand his philosophy.
Beware, Salò is agonizing in a dissimilar way than horror/splatters movies. Information technology'due south still one of the most "oppressive" movies I've ever watched

I watched information technology when I was twenty (near 27 years agone) and found it fascinating. Tried to watch it a couple years ago and I could non do it. Just too disturbing. Love Pasolini and this used to exist one of my favorites simply at this signal, Gospel of St Matthew or Arabian Nights are much more watchable.

It's about the corruption of power, and Pasolini mentioned he didnt like the commercialization of his trilogy of life, and Salo was the first of a trilogy of decease. Cant imagine how dark the other two films would take been.

It's definitely not every bit graphic as its reputation says. What bothered me virtually it is just how dark and nihilistic it is.
Merely to elaborate: some of the darkest films ofttimes have promise spots, gallows humor, or sympathetic characters that kind of lightens upwards the mood. This i doesn't. To me, that'due south manner more disturbing than the most nauseating gorn you can observe.

It'south not shock value for shock value'southward sake, there'south actual ideas behind information technology which elevate what might otherwise exist a miserable geek show. You're meant to connect the events of the film to late backer's consummate and utter nihilism. If you lot're not into that kind of commentary and but want to come across a freak bear witness, you might actually find the moving picture wearisome. Merely the real selling point is that it's actually dissimilar any picture you've ever seen before.
level 1
Yea I'd say it's one of the best horror films e'er made
level 1
If you accept admission to information technology, I'd recommend watching at least 1 of the trilogy of life films commencement. Plus, in that location is an awesome memoir in the accompanying criterion booklet for ToL on Salo in relation to those films. The extras in the Salo release are super interesting and helpful too.

Information technology's often grotesque and disgusting. Though not containing much in the way of blood spilled, information technology's got a Grand Guignol element of exaggerated base imagery, much like the writings of the Marquis de Sade on which it'southward partly based. Pasolini wasn't trying for shock value- information technology's more a depiction of his disgust with what the ruling classes can exercise and sometimes do. It's one of those odd films where I'1000 non sure whether I'd recommend information technology or not, but I did empathise more about it after actually seeing it vs. only reading nigh it. I wouldn't describe it equally a horror picture show myself but it's got horrific qualities.

It's alright just needless to say I don't plan on returning to it whatever time presently.
Read an essay afterwards if you can.

Its good in the fashion that reading something like Gulag Archipelago is good, in that it tries to betrayal people to existent horrors of the world.
level 1
I liked it. Even though it'southward not anything similar Rosemary'southward Baby or Optics Wide Close. Information technology kind of reminds me of them. It's worth a spotter if you like weird movies.

I bought it on VHS years ago because everyone was telling me how groovy it was and I have to say that I hated Salo, I constitute information technology boring, I'chiliad not a fan Pasolini I as well bought The Decameron on dvd many years ago, and it'south fine, sort of like a soft porn Middle Ages films, at least that'due south what it seemed to me.
level 2
Damn. How much would that fetch you these days? Or is it not super rare?

I'thousand also a big horror fan. I don't know if I'd necessarily phone call information technology horror. I guess it's one of those "stupor horror" type of films like A Serbian Film. It's much slower paced, though. I don't think it's groovy, but I did savor it. If you watch information technology, just be prepared for a slower paced movie.
I'd also similar to add that Salo is the just pic to ever make me feel nauseous.
